Today we mourn the passing of one of modern HipHop music’s Forefathers. The Infamous Prodigy passed away yesterday of asphyxiation, while being treated for his in-house battle with Sickle Cell Anemia. Prodigy was a street lyricist with a knack for portraying the nuances of growing up in the burrows of NY. Being from the south, I always found it insightful to hear Prodigy and Havoc doing what they did over dope samples and true HipHop production. The duo brought us the what’s happening with gutter lyrics dope delivery and beats that 20 yrs later are still popular as current stars and Indie musicians still today use their hit instrumentals such as Shook Ones to drop serious freestyle and written jewels. Prodigy was also one of the last rappers from the Tupac Biggie era to have had a legitimate place in the chronological timeline of the events that brought both Big and Pac to there untimely murders. The HipHop community must uplift his family and friends as we celebrate his life and contributions to our culture. Thank you Prodigy and Havoc for giving us all you have given since day 1. Rest well champ!
